WORK EXPERIENCE

15+ years of experience in reporting for radio, television, newspaper and internet.

MULTI MEDIA

July 2011-present: Reporter television, radio and internet for Omroep Zeeland.

TELEVISION

April 2010-present: Managing Director of Rockdoc Productions, a company producing audio and video. Created an anniversary and a promotion film for the meditation community Sidhadorp in Lelystad. Also produced 16 videos for internet (www.sidhadorp.nl).

 July-October 2009: reporter at the Avro current affairs program EénVandaag.

September 2007-June 2010: Producing, filming and editing (Avid) video content for Avro internet.

February-July 2007: Editor at the Avro current affairs program EénVandaag.

1996-1999: Reporter for the regional television channel TV Drenthe, Assen, The Netherlands. Created short news items and 10-minute reports from research to editing. Key figure of a weekly program on business activities in the region.

RADIO

2004-2011: Reporter for Avro Radio 1, the main radio news channel, Hilversum, The Netherlands. Producing, recording, editing reports and making live reports. Specializations: Economics, sustainability, health. Including reports from Afghanistan and the Tibetan community in exile.

NEWSPAPER

2000-2003: Founder of the English language business fortnightly ‘Sakhalin Independent’, Russian Far East. Made the newspaper sustainable by training Russians in journalism, marketing, photography and (web) design.

INTERNET

2001-2004: Designed website for the ‘Sakhalin Independent’. The site had a top ten position in Google.

INTERNATIONAL

1999-2004: Lived and worked in Sakhalin in the Russian Far East, Kazakhstan and Syria. Initiated travel for journalistic research to Russia, Central Asia, Asia and the Middle East. Subjects: multi-billion dollar projects of international oil companies and their impact on the environment and the local community, the legacy of the production and testing of weapons of mass destruction, EU-projects providing technical assistance to enhance the transition process in the Former Soviet Union.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

2008-2010: Voluntarily written articles for an organization that is protecting the interest of homeless youngsters.

November 2007: Co-author of 25+, a book about 25 years of history of HIV and AIDS in the gay community in the Netherlands.

August 2008: Editor in Chief of a publication on the Tibetan community in exile (2008).

2007-2010: Hostess at a restaurant for socially isolated people in Amsterdam-North on a weekly basis.

EDUCATION

1991-1995: Bachelor’s Degree in journalism. Faculty of Communication and Journalism, Utrecht, The Netherlands (1991-1995). Participant in a multi-cultural program on the EU. Final exam subject: Cyprus & human rights.

1990: Foundation course at the College for Social Work, Groningen, The Netherlands.

2010: Course in filming and editing at Open Studio in Amsterdam.

LANGUAGES

Dutch is my mother tongue; my English is near-native. I have advanced German and reasonable French. My spoken Russian is reasonable and I know the basic grammar.
